Lolita Poster: Make's Charity Poster Show

2016

For this annual charity poster show, selected artists were asked to create artwork that brings a favourite book to life. I chose Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita because I wanted to visually capture the complexity of a love story centred around eroticized youth. Nabokov often likened Lolita to a butterfly, seeing both as tender, dreamy and vulgar. In this piece I used the butterfly as a graphic container to hide stereotypically cute imagery that has been subtly sexualized, as well as portraits of both Humbert Humbert and Lolita.
